奥巴马会晤海地总统讨论重建 US, Haitian Presidents Discuss Earthquake Recovery

美国总统奥巴马说,海地的形势依然严峻,在1月12日的灾难性地震之后,人们迫切需要避难场所、食品和医疗服务。奥巴马说,现在的挑战是防止海地发生第二次灾难。

奥巴马星期三在白宫与海地总统普雷瓦尔举行会晤之后发表上述讲话。他说,双方讨论了海地的恢复和重建工作。奥巴马称这次地震是西半球遭受的最严重灾难之一。

普雷瓦尔还将在国会山会晤一些美国议员。美国国会一些关键议员敦促扩大美国对海地贸易的优惠政策,帮助海地重建其制衣行业。

U.S. President Barack Obama says the situation in Haiti remains dire, with people in desperate need of shelter, food and medicine after the devastating January 12 earthquake.President Obama said the challenge is to prevent a second disaster in the country.

Mr. Obama spoke at the White House Wednesday after a private meeting with President Ren? Preval. He said they discussed recovery and reconstruction efforts. Mr. Obama described the earthquake as one of the most devastating disasters to strike the hemisphere. 

Mr. Preval is also meeting with U.S. lawmakers on Capitol Hill, as key members of Congress urge an expansion of U.S. trade benefits to help Haiti rebuild its clothing sector.
