Foreign ministers of the world's leading industrial powers plus Russia, the G-8, are backing strong steps to curb Iran's nuclear program.Top diplomats from the eight countries are meeting Tuesday near Ottawa, Canada to discuss Iran's nuclear program and other non-proliferation issues. Language from their proposed final communiqu? endorses what it calls "appropriate and strong steps" to show resolve on Iran, while keeping open the option for dialogue.

Canadian Prime Minster Stephen Harper said the meeting comes at a particularly difficult time in the international community's dealings with Iran and North Korea. He said both countries are serious threats to global security.Mr. Harper called for a stronger coordinated action on Iran, including a fourth round of U.N. sanctions if necessary.
