Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called on the United States and Russia to accept a nuclear fuel swap deal, warning that it will be the last chance to resolve the nuclear stand-off.

In a televised speech Wednesday, Mr. Ahmadinejad said the proposal represents a "historic opportunity" for U.S. President Barack Obama.

The U.S. government has dismissed the proposal which calls for Iran to ship some of its low-enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for higher-grade fuel for a medical research reactor in Tehran.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called it a "transparent ploy" by Iran to avoid United Nations Security Council sanctions.

Mr. Ahmadinejad also lashed out at Russia for supporting new Security Council sanctions, accusing Moscow of bowing to U.S. pressure.

Russia's top foreign policy advisor (Sergei Prikhodko) denounced what he called Iran's "political demagoguery, and said Russia always acts in its own national interest.
