Russia may be preparing to release a scientist jailed on charges of spying for the United States, in exchange for the release of suspected Russian agents recently detained in the U.S.
The lawyer for imprisoned Russian scientist Igor Sutyagin said Wednesday he is being released as part of an exchange for members of the alleged Russian spy ring.
Sutyagin's brother said Washington proposed the swap, and the Associated Press reports that a U.S. court hearing for three members of the alleged Russian spy ring has been postponed.
Neither U.S. nor Russian officials have commented on the reported deal.
It is not clear if Sutyagin would be swapped for all 10 suspected Russian agents, or just specific ones.
