U.S. and Pakistani officials are condemning the publication of leaked documents that are said to be secret U.S. military files on the war in Afghanistan.

The website WikiLeaks on Sunday posted some 91,000 documents online, which it says covers the last six years of the Afghan war. The documents include details of civilian casualties caused by foreign forces carrying out raids against insurgent targets.

Speaking Monday in London, WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange said he believes it would be up to a court of law to decide whether crimes were committed, but he said he believes there is evidence of war crimes in the material.

White House National Security Advisor James Jones issued a statement calling the leaks "irresponsible," saying they not only put the lives of Americans and their partners at risk, but also threaten national security.

The documents also claim that Pakistan's intelligence service was aiding the Afghan insurgency.

Pakistan's Ambassador to the U.S., Hussain Haqqani, insisted his country is fully committed to fighting Islamic insurgents. He said the released documents do not reflect current on-the-ground realities.
