Nuclear powers the United States, Britain and France all will send representatives to ceremonies Friday marking the anniversary of the U.S. nuclear bombing of Hiroshima in 1945.

It will be the first time any of the three attended the annual ceremony, which begins with the ringing of bells and the release of doves.

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is already in Japan for the ceremony. In remarks released by the United Nations, he told Waseda university students Wednesday that he will push for nuclear disarmament -- including steps toward a comprehensive test ban treaty and a fissile material cut-off treaty -- at a conference in New York next month.

The United States will be represented at the ceremony Friday by Ambassador John Roos.
