联合国推出400亿美元健康计划 U.N. Launches 40 Billion Global Health Campaign

联合国秘书长潘基文将推出一项400亿美元的计划,用于改善全球妇女儿童的健康状况。潘基文将在星期三正式宣布这一计划,这是世界领导人参加的联合国峰会的最后一天,峰会的目的是评估联合国反贫困千年发展目标的进展。

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is set to unveil a $40 billion initiative aimed at improving the health of women and children around the world.Mr. Ban is to announce the effort Wednesday, the final day of a U.N. summit of world leaders to assess the progress of the world body's anti-poverty Millennium Development Goals.

The United Nations says spending money on the health of women and children helps to reduce poverty and stimulate economic growth.U.N. officials say governments and private aid organizations have committed to provide the $40 billion dollars for the new push. But the international aid organization Oxfam voiced skepticism about whether national governments, who have cut their budgets to cope with a global economic crisis, will actually set aside money for the cause.
