Kosovo has extended a warm welcome to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as she closed out a three-nation tour of the ethnically splintered Balkans. Clinton was greeted Wednesday in the capital, Pristina, by thousands of flag-waving ethnic Albanians who lined a motorcade route which included a stretch of Bill Clinton Boulevard -- the roadway named for her husband and former U.S. president. She then held talks with Prime Minister Hashim Thaci and was scheduled to visit a minority Serb enclave in Gracanica, just outside Pristina later Wednesday.

Clinton arrived in Pristina from Serbia, which refuses to recognize the independence of its former province. Kosovo seceded two years ago and is recognized by 70 nations as an independent country. The Secretary is pressing leaders in both capitals to improve bilateral relations and to move forward with European Union-brokered talks on practical issues affecting the region.
