North Korea says it is willing to provide samples of its torpedoes to prove one of its submarines was not responsible for the deadly sinking of a South Korean warship.

Pyongyang made the offer Tuesday in a statement released by the North's official Korean News Agency. The statement says the aluminum alloy fragments discovered from the site of the Cheonan wreckage automatically proves a North Korean submarine did not sink the vessel.

Pyongyang says its torpedoes are made of steel alloys.

North Korea has strongly disputed the conclusion of an international team of investigators that a North Korean torpedo sank the Cheonan back in March, killing 46 sailors. The incident sent inter-Korean relations to its lowest point in some time.
