Libyan security forces fired tear gas at protesters in the capital as a battle raged between the military and rebels in a key oil stronghold to the east. Forces loyal to Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi fired the tear gas on Friday after several hundred anti-government protesters took to the streets, following Friday prayers. Some demonstrators chanted "Gadhafi is the enemy of God."
Clashes were also said to have erupted between pro and anti-Gadhafi forces in the the eastern oil port of Ras Lanuf.

Meanwhile, news reports quote witnesses who say there are casualties in the western city of Zawiya Friday, as a result of a clash between forces loyal to Mr. Gadhafi and anti-government demonstrators.

Opposition protesters also rallied on Friday in the city of Benghazi, a rebel stronghold. Earlier Friday, Libyan warplanes carried out a third day of airstrikes -- targeting a military base near the eastern rebel-held town of Ajdabiya. Rebels holding the base say there was no damage from the strikes. On Thursday, Libyan warplanes launched strikes against the rebel-held city of Brega, a key oil port.
