[00:04.05]Cameroon has launched an $8 million emergency program [00:10.50]to help students displaced by Boko Haram militants. [00:15.80]The government last month announced plans [00:18.60]to build classrooms and housing for 70,000 students. [00:24.09]The children cannot attend their own schools [00:27.80]because of militant attacks along the border with Nigeria. [00:33.30]The classrooms will be in safer parts of Cameroon, [00:37.90]far from the border area. [00:41.09]Midjiyawa Bakari is the governor [00:44.25]of the Far North region of Cameroon. [00:47.20]He told reporters that Boko Haram fighters [00:51.65]destroyed 170 schools along the border with Nigeria. [00:57.85]The students from that area fled to other areas of Cameroon. [01:04.44]Mr. Bakari said schools in safer places [01:09.29]can no longer provide for the increasing numbers of students. [01:15.48]The governor has given out contracts [01:19.68]to build classrooms, dormitories and latrines. [01:24.57]Mr. Bakari said he offered the work to businessmen he trusts. [01:31.70]He wants them to complete the projects in 40 days [01:35.87]so the children can go back to school. [01:38.95]Businessman Ngeh Foncha was asked [01:43.11]to supply electricity to the schools. [01:45.82]He said the government has helped speed up the work [01:49.98]by reducing the time it takes to get administrative approval. [01:55.52]Mr. Foncha said his crews planned [01:58.92]to bring electricity cables and poles to building sites. [02:04.16]He expected 80 percent of the work [02:07.66]to be completed within three weeks. [02:10.55]The new school term is to begin in the second half of April. [02:15.70]The government has sent the military to the sites. [02:19.30]Ibrahim Joel Mahamat is the local delegate responsible [02:26.05]for basic education in the Far North region. [02:29.79]He said nearly half of the displaced children [02:33.63]are primary school students. [02:36.54]An estimated 33,000 children have been displaced [02:41.97]from primary schools on Cameroon's northern border with Nigeria. [02:47.97]Mr. Mahamat says he thinks that soon these boys and girls [02:55.01]will have good classrooms so they can study in safer localities. [03:01.34]The school children are among the 100,000 people [03:06.79]who had to leave their homes [03:09.58]since Boko Haram became active in Cameroon. [03:14.07]The militant group is seeking to set up an Islamic state. [03:19.27]I'm Jill Robbins. [03:21.97]¸ü¶àÌýÁ¦Çë·ÃÎÊ51VOA.COM.
