[by:www.51voa.com] [00:00.00]¸ü¶àÌýÁ¦Çë·ÃÎÊ51VOA.COM [00:00.32]American men weigh about seven kilograms more now, [00:05.44]on average, than they did 20 years ago. [00:09.84]The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, [00:16.28]or CDC, reported the finding earlier this month. [00:22.24]The CDC report noted that the average weight [00:27.48]for American men over the age of 20 is 88.7 kilograms. [00:35.28]That amount is based on information gathered between 2011 and 2014. [00:44.72]Between 1988 and 1994, [00:51.36]the average weight of an American man was 82 kilograms. [00:56.84]Over the 20-year period, the average height of men did not change. [01:04.72]The report said American women and children have also gained weight. [01:11.44]The average woman weighed 64 kilograms in 1960 [01:17.88]and now weighs 76 kilograms. [01:21.96]On average, the weight of adolescent boys and girls [01:27.20]increased 5.4 kilograms over the past 20 years. [01:33.20]The report did not tell why the average weight of Americans increased. [01:40.52]But many studies show a large number of people in the United States are obese. [01:47.20]Obesity is a condition in which the body stores large, unhealthy amounts of fat. [01:56.28]Obese individuals are considered overweight. [02:01.80]The information for the new report was gathered from 19,000 people. [02:09.52]They took part in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2011 to 2014. [02:20.44]CDC officials say about 35 percent of Americans are obese. [02:27.52]Obesity can cause many health problems, including heart disease, stroke, [02:35.00]Type 2 diabetes and some kinds of cancer. [02:40.88]There was some good news from the report. [02:45.64]It noted that the rate of weight increase for men appears to be slowing. [02:52.96]Since 2002, the average weight of men has increased by just 2.3 kilograms. [03:01.68]Goutham Rao heads the Department of Family Medicine [03:07.80]and Community Health at Case Western Medical Center in Ohio. [03:14.08]Rao told ABC News the rate of increase in weight of American men, [03:20.44]women and children "is always a cause for alarm." [03:26.68]He said there are some easy ways to prevent weight gain, [03:31.16]including choosing water over sugary drinks [03:35.54]and taking part in some kind of physical activity every day. [03:41.28]Rao said that people should not worry about each pound they lose, [03:48.00]but should instead "think about adopting [03:51.76]healthy behaviors that can last a lifetime."
