[00:12.80]The Federal Bureau of Investigation, or FBI, produced the report. [00:20.84]It says there were 257 anti-Muslim hate crimes in 2015 [00:28.76]compared to 154 in 2014. [00:34.20]The number has not been that high since 2001, [00:40.64]which saw 481 incidents against Muslims. [00:46.32]Many of the incidents followed the September 11 [00:51.76]terrorist attacks against the U.S. that year. [00:56.40]The FBI report is based on hate crimes recorded [01:02.28]by local law enforcement agencies across the United States. [01:07.32]Crimes involving religion increased 23 percent to 1,244, the report said. [01:18.96]Jews and Jewish organizations were targeted most [01:24.08]in religious-based hate crimes. [01:27.52]They represented more than half of all those reported. [01:31.96]Hate crimes against Jews rose 9 percent. [01:36.08]Overall, the number of U.S. hate crimes rose from 5,479 in 2014 [01:48.76]to 5,850 last year ¨C an almost 7 percent increase. [01:58.23]The FBI said 18 victims were murdered and 13 raped. [02:06.00]About 41 percent of hate crimes involved threatening behavior, [02:13.32]while 60 percent of victims were assaulted. [02:18.28]The largest group of victims ¨C 59 percent [02:24.96]¨C were targeted because of their race or ethnicity, the report says. [02:31.72]About 52 percent of these hate crimes [02:36.68]were done because of anti-Black bias. [02:41.84]More than 18 percent were victims of anti-White bias, [02:48.16]while 9 percent were anti-Hispanic or Latino crimes. [02:54.76]About 3 percent resulted from either anti-Asian [03:00.44]or anti-American Indian bias, [03:04.20]while 1 percent involved anti-Arab crimes. [03:09.68]The FBI report says 48 percent of the violators were white [03:18.24]and 24 percent were black. [03:22.49]Nearly 18 percent of reported hate crimes [03:27.48]were based on the sexual orientation of victims. [03:32.97]Of the 1,263 victims, [03:37.75]62 percent of incidents involved anti-gay bias against men. [03:46.20]The report found that about 2 percent of hate crime victims [03:52.32]were targeted because of gender identity bias. [03:56.65]About 1 percent of victims faced disability bias, [04:02.67]while 0.4 percent were targeted because of gender bias. [04:09.48]There have been reports of a rise in hate-related incidents [04:14.96]following Donald Trump's victory last week in the U.S. presidential election. [04:21.87]The not-for-profit Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) [04:28.80]said it received more than 400 reports of hate-motivated incidents over the past week. [04:37.24]It said most of the incidents involved hateful intimidation of victims. [04:44.53]The reports were gathered from news reports, social media [04:50.08]and people contacting the SPLC directly. [04:54.99]Most of the intimidation was directed at immigrants, [04:59.99]according to the SPLC's website. [05:03.90]This was followed by threats against African Americans, [05:08.44]members of the LGBT community and Muslims. [05:13.77]The Washington-based Council on American Islamic Relations, or CAIR, [05:22.36]also said it had received reports of hate-related incidents involving Muslims. [05:30.18]In one incident in Columbus, Ohio, [05:35.40]a man at a traffic stop made threats against a woman wearing a hijab. [05:41.96]In Michigan, a man threatened to set a Muslim woman on fire [05:48.24]unless she took off her hijab. [05:51.40]Donald Trump appeared Sunday night on the CBS news program "60 Minutes." [05:59.60]The president-elect spoke about reports [06:03.82]that some of his supporters had used hate speech against others. [06:09.99]"I am so saddened to hear that," Trump said. "And I say, 'Stop it.' [06:17.75]If it helps, I will say this, and I will say right to the cameras: 'Stop it.'" [06:24.67]Some Muslim rights groups welcomed Trump's statement. [06:30.30]But they also have called for the president-elect to expand on this message. [06:37.63]They have asked that he clearly show supporters [06:41.84]he does not approve of hateful behavior.
