[00:13.11]A giant panda named Mei Xiang gave birth to Bao Bao [00:19.43]at Washington's National Zoo in 2013. [00:24.76]She was the zoo's first surviving panda cub since 2005. [00:31.88]Visitors got to see Bao Bao for the first time in early 2014. [00:40.36]The zoo's first giant pandas arrived in 1972. [00:47.20]They were a gift to the United States [00:50.68]after President Richard Nixon's historic trip to China. [00:57.24]The U.S. agreement with China states that the cubs of pandas [01:03.40]loaned to the National Zoo must go to China by age four. [01:10.00]Zoo officials have a number of events [01:13.92]planned for Bao Bao before she travels overseas. [01:18.96]For example, she will receive a cake made of ice. [01:25.40]Officials say it will recognize the people [01:30.68]who give money to the National Zoo [01:33.60]to help finance research into animals.
