[00:10.39]London was followed by New York City. [00:14.70]The study showed that the British capital extended its lead [00:20.16]over New York compared to past years. [00:23.90]Some politicians and economists have suggested [00:28.94]that London would lose its top rating [00:32.23]because of Britain's planned withdrawal from the European Union. [00:37.87]But the study shows there are few signs of that happening -- at least not yet. [00:45.87]The Z/Yen Global Financial Centers Index [00:51.09]rates 92 financial centers on things such as public services [00:57.20]and the availability of experienced and well-educated workers. [01:04.18]New York, in second place, finished 24 points behind London. [01:11.60]That is the largest difference between the two cities [01:15.70]since the study was first published in 2007. [01:21.18]Hong Kong finished in third place, and Singapore finished fourth. [01:27.90]New York's overall rating fell 24 points from its rating the year before. [01:34.85]That is the biggest fall among top U.S. cities. [01:39.99]Study organizers say the large drop probably resulted from "fears over U.S. trade." [01:48.12]Since becoming U.S. president in January, Donald Trump [01:53.39]has removed the United States from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal. [01:59.66]Critics have described his economic policy as isolationist. [02:05.51]TheCityUK is the most powerful group working in support of Britain's financial industry. [02:14.79]The group says its members are saying that they do not know enough [02:20.22]about what will happen when the country leaves the EU. [02:25.08]Miles Celic leads TheCityUK. He says that because it is not clear what will happen, [02:34.46]"many firms have already started to activate their contingency plans [02:40.88]and others will undoubtedly follow suit if these aren't confirmed as soon as possible." [02:48.80]The survey was completed in June. [02:52.72]Since then, talks between Britain and the European Commission [02:57.81]about Britain's planned withdrawal from the EU have become increasingly unpleasant. [03:04.86]And in the past two months, most major U.S., British and Japanese banks [03:13.07]have said they will open offices in Frankfurt, Germany or Dublin, Ireland. [03:19.54]A year ago, Frankfurt finished in 23rd place in the study. [03:25.89]This year it rose to 11th. Dublin was in 33rd place last year. [03:33.23]This year it moved up to 30th place.
