[00:14.44]The social media service is estimated to have [00:18.88]more than 1 billion active monthly users worldwide. [00:24.92]Most people use the service on their mobile phones. [00:31.84]Now, Instagram users are able to use the service [00:37.79]for a completely different activity – reading books. [00:43.92]The New York Public Library recently launched a new service called Insta Novels. [00:53.24]This new offering will include a collection of classic books through Instagram. [01:01.64]The service is available to all Instagram users, [01:05.88]not just people in New York City. [01:11.08]Library officials have promised to provide readers with [01:15.60]"some of the greatest stories ever told." [01:20.19]Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" was the first on Instagram. [01:30.28]The New York Public Library said this famous story was specially designed [01:36.32]for Instagram to include colorful animations and modern drawings. [01:43.68]The books can be found in Instagram Stories. [01:49.56]This Instagram feature was designed to let users post photos and videos [01:57.08]that would automatically disappear after 24 hours. [02:02.04]But then Story Highlights was introduced last year [02:07.08]as a way for users to keep content in Stories for as long as they want. [02:15.72]Books posted by the library will be available through Story Highlights. [02:22.64]Reading works similar to many other e-reader services on personal devices. [02:31.76]Users can touch different areas to turn pages [02:35.92]or bring up additional content. [02:39.20]The New York Public Library also has its own e-reader app [02:45.96]and Insta Novels will also be available on it. [02:51.20]Library officials say the main purpose [02:55.76]is to raise awareness about reading in general. [03:00.80]But it is also designed to show how the library is changing [03:05.77]to fit an online world and appeal to younger people. [03:11.16]Christopher Platt, the New York Public Library's chief library officer, [03:18.28]spoke about the service to The Wall Street Journal. [03:23.48]"We want people to understand that libraries [03:27.40]aren't just those brick-and-mortar places full of dusty books," he said. [03:34.58]The library has already lined up several other classic works [03:41.12]to be released on Instagram in the coming months. [03:45.49]These include "The Yellow Wallpaper," [03:49.84]a short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, [03:53.68]and "The Metamorphosis," by Franz Kafka. [03:59.68]I'm Bryan Lynn. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
