一份新的报道称，2008年在美国学习的外国留学生数量创最高纪录。
去年，超过67万名国际学生在美国的学院或大学 就读。这比前一年增长了8%，是自1980年以来增长率最高的一年。
“门户开放报告”由国际教育协会发布，由国务院支持。
该报告称，去年国际学生的数量比2002年的上一个最高纪录增加了几乎15%。去年，在经济低迷持续恶化的情况下，处于前十位的国家有七个国家派遣留学的人数增加。
印度连续第八年是向美国输出留学生最多的国家。去年，超过10万名印度学生在美国学校就读，比前一年增加了9%。
中国输出的留学生数量居第二位，超过9.8万，增长了21%。其中增幅最大的是中国的本科生。
韩国处于第三位。韩国留学生增加了9%，到达7.5万。
加拿大是处于前五位的唯一一个非亚洲国家。加拿大的留学生数量增加了2%，上升到第四位。去年秋天学年开始时，共有3万名加拿大学生登记入学。
日本下降到了第五位。日本在美国的留学生数量已经连续第四年出现下滑，现在总数仅达2.9万。
台湾向美国输出的留学生数量也减少，而墨西哥留学生数量几乎没有改变。
洛杉矶的南加州大学留学生数量仍然是最多的。“门户开放报告”称，去年接近7500名留学生在洛杉矶南加州大学就读。
位于纽约的纽约大学和哥伦比亚大学分别处于第二位和第三位。位于前五位的其他学校包括伊利诺伊大学厄本那—香槟分校和普渡大学西拉法叶校区。
商业和管理仍然是最受国际生欢迎的专业领域。接下来就是工程，数学和计算机科学。

1).increase(rise,grow,go up...)表示数量的增加。 increase(rise...)5 times 增加四倍（为原来的5倍） increase(rise...)30% 增长30% increase(rise...)by 30% 增长30% 例如： As compared with last year,the output goes up 5 times.也去年相比，产量增长5倍。 The production of TV sets has been increased by 6 times since 1985. 1985年以来电视产量增加了6倍。
2).double(twice)n times表示倍数的增加 double(twice)...为。。。两倍，增加一倍，翻一番 n times... 为。。。n倍，例如： The production is now double what it was.目前的产量是过去的两倍。 Robert drove twice the distance from New York to Huston.罗伯特驾车驶过从纽约到休斯敦两倍的那么远的距离。
3).用...more(higher,better...)than...表示数量的增加。例如：The school used to have boys only,but it now has both boys and girls with the number of girls more than 15 percent.这所学校曾经只有男学生，而现在这所学校既有男学生也有女学生，女生人数超过15%。 The sun is thousands of times larger than the earth.太阳的大小是地球的几千倍。（或：太阳比地球大几千倍）
4).用as much(many,long,fast...)as...表示数量的增加。 6 times as much as...六倍那么多，多五倍 half as long as... 一半那么长 30% as heavy as... 30%那么重。 one fourth as great as...四分之一那么大 as large（long) again as...;again as large(long) as... 比...... 大(长）一倍，两倍大（长） half as much again as...;half again as much as ... 比......多半倍，有......一倍半那么多例如： The bridge is twice as long as that one.这座桥长是那座桥的两倍。
2.In all, seven of the ten top countries sent more students last year, just as the economic downturn was worsening.
