周二是世界艾滋病日，关于这种传染病的最新报告给了我们一些值得庆祝的理由。
专家表示，自2001年以来，新的H.I.V感染率下降了17%。据估计，撒哈拉以南非洲的艾滋病感染率下降了大约15%。而在东非，感染艾滋病毒的人数下降了接近25%。
在东欧，艾滋病的传染比较稳定。但是在一些国家，新感染艾滋病人数有所上升。
该报告上周由联合国艾滋病联合工作组(UNAIDS)和世界卫生组织(WHO)公布。
该报告称，与H.I.V相关的死亡人数似乎在2004年已经达到最高峰。高峰过后，由于越来越多的人接受治疗，死亡人数降低了大约10%。
专家在报告中表示，这个好消息归功于预防方面的努力，而不仅仅是这种传染病本身的发展趋势。然而，该报告指出，由于艾滋病的传染状况已经改变，而预防措施仍然一成不变。
UNAIDS的Karen Stanecki表示，几乎没有任何项目针对关系安全的人群，或者针对25岁以上人群，以及最新的离异人群。
艾滋病是导致15至44岁女性死亡的主要诱因，而这刚好是生育的主要年龄。
世卫组织现在建议感染H.I.V的女性在怀孕14周时开始使用抗逆转录病毒药物，而不是在28周的时候。世卫组织还建议女性在哺乳期末，也就是婴儿一周岁的时候继续接受治疗。这会减少婴儿感染病毒的风险。
治疗和人口增长意味着越来越多的人感染H.I.V。最新的评估称，大约有3350万人感染艾滋病毒。去年，因艾滋病死亡人数高达200万，共有270万新感染病例。
感染H.I.V的人口大约有三分之二居住在撒哈拉以南非洲，最严重的是在南非。周二，南非总统祖马宣布扩大监测和治疗范围。他说，到明年4月份时，所有1周岁以下感染H.I.V的婴儿都将接受治疗。
关于艾滋病的研究仍在继续。周一，美国表示将举办2012年国际艾滋病会议。由于美国对艾滋病毒携带者实行旅行限制令，自1990年以来，该会议从来没有在美国召开。该旅行限令将在1月4日作废。
