Georgia Fighting Disrupts Oil Exports

11 August, 2008

World oil prices rebounded in today's (Monday's) trading after fighting between Russia and Georgia disrupted crude exports from the Caspian region. The price of a barrel of oil for future delivery rose nearly two dollars to nearly 117 dollars a barrel in New York trading.

Georgia does not produce oil, but is a transit point for crude exports from Azerbaijan.Today's (Monday's) price spike reverses weeks of declining oil prices as demand fell when high prices forced consumers to cut consumption.
