希腊首都雅典星期三发生大规模抗议游行反对政府的紧缩措施,周围示威者与警察爆发冲突,防暴警察向示威者投放催泪弹。

警方说,有几十个年轻人在雅典市中心的议会附近向一座建筑投掷石块的时候爆发了这场冲突。

大约三万名希腊公务员和私营部门员工举行24小时罢工,抗议政府为摆脱希腊金融危机而采取的削减措施。这些措施包括冻结工资、增税和提高退休年龄。

希腊公务员工会说,政府员工成为政府大幅削减支出的目标。

2009年底希腊预算赤字接近国内生产总值的13%,超过欧盟上限的四倍以上。

Greek riot police have fired tear gas at demonstrators in Athens, as clashes erupted Wednesday on the fringes of a large protest march against government austerity measures.

Police say the clashes broke out when scores of rock-throwing youths tried to storm a building near parliament in central Athens.

Some 30,000 Greek civil servants and private sector workers walked off their jobs in a 24-hour protest against government cutbacks designed to pull Greece out of its financial crisis.

The measures include wage freezes, tax hikes and raising the retirement age.The Greek civil servants' union says government workers have become the targets of sharp spending cuts.

Greece's budget deficit was nearly 13 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product at the end of 2009 -- more than four times the European Union ceiling.
