A new survey has found that Hispanics born outside of the United States have a more positive view of the 2010 U.S. Census than Hispanics born in the U.S.
The Pew Hispanic Center, part of the independent Pew Research Center said 80 percent of Hispanics born outside the U.S. told the survey the census is good for the Hispanic community, compared to just 57 percent of Hispanics born in the United States.
The Pew survey also found that Hispanic immigrants are more likely than U.S.-born Hispanics to know the census cannot be used to determine whether someone is in the U.S. illegally. According to the survey, Hispanic immigrants are also more likely to trust the U.S. Census Bureau to keep their personal information confidential as required by law.
