The European Commission says Greece has received $18 billion in bailout loans from other EU nations to help the country overcome its debt crisis.

The installment of emergency loans Tuesday comes one day before Athens is to repay $10.6 billion of bonds in order to avoid default.

Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, the leader of EU finance ministers, said Tuesday he believes "Greece is on the right track."

The Greek financial crisis and its threat to other eurozone countries caused the European Union and the International Monetary Fund this month to organize a $145 billion bailout for Greece, in return for Athens imposing severe spending cuts.

Spending cuts in Greece recently sparked protests that sometimes turned violent, raising questions about the government's ability to manage the crisis.
