Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says his country is willing to resume talks with Western nations about its nuclear program if certain conditions are met.

Mr. Ahmadinejad said Iran would announce those conditions soon. Speaking in a televised address Wednesday, he also said world powers must be disciplined for the latest sanctions against Tehran.

The U.N. Security Council passed a fourth round of sanctions against Iran last week over its nuclear program, which Western nations suspect is being used to build weapons. The European Union is also set to impose sanctions against Tehran.

Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. The country's atomic energy chief said Wednesday that Iran plans to build four new, more powerful nuclear reactors. Ali Akbar Salehi said the reactors will produce nuclear material that will be exported to other Islamic countries for medical research.

The EU's foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, said this week she has invited Iran's top nuclear negotiator for new talks on the dispute.

She said the proposal is in line with the EU's twin-track approach of using both dialogue and sanctions to target Iran's atomic program.
