Hayworth, a radio host and former U.S. representative who was endorsed by the conservative Tea Party movement.
In the far northwestern state of Alaska, as of early Wednesday, two-term U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski was trailing Joe Miller, a lawyer with little political experience who was endorsed by former Governor Sarah Palin. Miller was leading Murkowski by fewer than 2,000 votes, with as many as 16,000 absentee ballots left to be counted. The tallying of those votes vvill not begin until next week. Voters also went to the polls in Oklahoma, Florida and Vermont.
