冰岛储蓄银行Icesave2008年在世界经济危机最严重时倒闭。冰岛总统拒绝签署议会二月份通过的偿还英国和荷兰政府的决议，从而导致了星期六的公投。2010年3月冰岛选民曾经否决过一项偿还法案。
金融专家认为，如果偿还法案获得通过，这将有助于冰岛在金融市场上重树信誉。
Icelanders vote Saturday on a referendum to repay Britain and the Netherlands the $5 billion they paid their citizens who held accounts in an Icelandic bank that collapsed.
The bank, Icesave, failed in 2008 at the height of the world financial crisis. Saturday's referendum was triggered by Iceland's president, who refused to sign a bill passed by parliament in February to reimburse the Britain and the Netherlands.In March of 2010, Icelanders rejected another repayment bill.
Financial experts say Iceland's approval of the referendum would help it regain credibility in financial markets.
