[ti:World Trade Center Reopens for Business in NYC] [ar:Mario Ritter] [al:Economics Report] [by:www.51voa.com] [00:00.00]From VOA Learning English, this is the Economics Report. [00:06.44]Thirteen years have past since the September 11th, [00:11.87]2001 terrorist attacks [00:14.81]that destroyed the World Trade Center in New York City. [00:19.53]Now its replacement has opened for business. [00:24.56]One World Trade Center is America's tallest building [00:30.44]at 104 levels or storeys. [00:34.87]The company Conde Nast Publishing recently moved into offices there. [00:42.97]Conde Nast says it will have 2,300 employees [00:49.79]spread among 24 floors of the building. [00:54.13]The building still raises safety concerns [00:58.37]among some people who remember [01:01.26]what happened on the site. [01:03.46]But those arriving for work, [01:07.09]soon after Conde Nast offices opened, [01:10.72]expressed no concerns about being safe. [01:15.15]"There's plenty of security here. [01:18.59]You feel safe, at least I do," said Austin Parker. [01:21.28]"You know it's a tragedy what happened in 2001, [01:25.11]but I think it's a great tribute to America [01:29.76]what they've come back and done. [01:31.60]I'm proud to work here," said MaryAnne Cacey. [01:33.89]Conde Nast employee says [01:39.99]working at one World Trade Center was an inspiration. [01:44.72]On the day the building opened for business, Conde Nast, [01:56.26]the New York and New Jersey Port Authority [02:00.37]and Construction Company Officials praised the new skyscraper. [02:05.86]Charles Townsend is Conde Nast's Chief Executive. [02:11.84]"This is a terrific day for lower Manhattan, [02:15.42]a wonderful day for New York City [02:18.06]and an absolutely great day for Conde Nast," said Townsend. [02:22.09]Steve Plate is director of One World Trade Center construction. [02:27.27]He noted how important it was to rebuild what was lost. [02:34.18]"We give you back as a gift of remembrance, [02:38.23]of people we lost that fateful day but also [02:41.86]of the wonder of how people pull together [02:44.15]to make such a wonderful thing , [02:46.88]a wonderful structure in their memory," said Plate. [02:50.52]One World Trade Center is 541 meters high. [02:55.69]There are 279,000 square meters [03:00.52]of space within the building. [03:02.51]60 percent of the space has been rented [03:06.84]or leased by a number of publishing, [03:09.83]technology and communications companies. [03:13.81]One World Trade Center cost $3.9 billion to build. [03:21.07]It is one of the world's costliest structures. [03:25.65]The One World Trade Center website says [03:30.29]the structure uses the newest safety and security systems. [03:35.97]And that's the Economics Report for VOA Learning English.
