[00:12.32]The U.S. Geological Survey says the center of the earthquake [00:18.04]was near the town of Norcia. [00:22.00]Amatrice and Accumoli were hit especially hard. [00:27.48]The mayor of Amatrice said [00:31.08]"three-quarters of the town is not there anymore." [00:36.44]Hundreds of people died and more were injured in the quake. [00:42.24]One woman in Amatrice said [00:45.68]"it was one of the most beautiful towns of Italy, [00:49.84]and now there's nothing left." [00:53.68]Many people and news organizations [00:57.00]posted photos on Facebook and Twitter [01:00.96]comparing how the towns looked before and after the earthquake. [01:06.84]CNN used a computer animation called a GIF [01:12.72]to show how Amatrice changed from one day to the next. [01:18.40]The town's clock tower was the only building still standing. [01:25.24]One person wrote: "Wow! Have mercy, Lord!" [01:30.40]USA Today used both aerial photos and photos from the ground [01:37.16]to make a slideshow of before and after images. [01:42.84]Some of the images came from Google Maps' street view. [01:48.04]One person wrote: "my heart goes out to the people." [01:53.84]Rescue efforts are continuing in Italy. [01:57.96]Many were excited to hear the news of a 10-year-old girl [02:02.80]being pulled from the rubble after 17 hours. [02:07.56]"May they find more survivors," wrote Rose Horowitz.
