[00:03.60]Ryan Lochte's name stayed in the news this week, [00:08.64]two days after the closing ceremony [00:12.16]of the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics. [00:16.84]Lochte is the American swimmer who did not tell the truth [00:22.00]about being robbed early one morning during the Rio Games. [00:27.60]Four of Lochte's sponsors said they would no longer support him. [00:34.88]Two of the sponsors are well-known companies, [00:38.88]Speedo and Ralph Lauren. [00:41.56]Speedo makes swimwear, [00:44.38]including the suits many swimmers wore in the Olympics. [00:49.36]Ralph Lauren made the clothing Team USA athletes wore [00:54.36]during the opening and closing ceremonies in Rio de Janeiro. [01:01.04]Many companies pay money so athletes will wear their clothing, [01:06.08]use their equipment and appear in their advertisements. [01:12.32]Lochte got into trouble for saying he and three teammates [01:17.56]were robbed when men posing as police officers stopped his taxi. [01:24.40]But after the Rio de Janeiro police investigated the incident, [01:29.80]it turned out that Lochte was not telling the truth. [01:34.04]Video cameras at a gas station showed Lochte and his teammates [01:40.12]getting into an argument with armed security guards. [01:44.60]Lochte and his teammates explained that they were asked [01:49.48]to pay money for damaging property at the gas station. [01:54.24]But the explanation came many days after the first story they told. [02:00.28]In an interview, Lochte said the incident and his behavior [02:07.00]tarnished the Rio de Janeiro Olympics "a little." [02:11.80]Speedo said it would donate $50,000 to a charity that supports children. [02:20.20]The other sponsors that ended their connection with Lochte [02:24.48]were a hair removal company and a Japanese company that makes mattresses. [02:31.36]Sponsors can usually end their deals with an athlete if he or she behaves badly. [02:40.52]Many people on Facebook and Twitter reacted to the news. [02:45.80]They said the moral of the Lochte story is: [02:50.36]take responsibility for your actions, [02:54.12]however embarrassing they may be. [02:57.84]Others said people should remember [03:00.88]"what you do in the present affects your future." [03:04.72]And that's What's Trending Today. [03:08.68]I'm Dan Friedell.
