[00:10.36]The man, 24-year-old Anas al-Basha, [00:14.88]was center director for the group Space for Hope. [00:20.24]It supports hundreds of children who lost parents in Syria's civil war. [00:28.88]The Associated Press reported Basha was killed in an air strike Tuesday in the northern city of Aleppo. [00:40.20]Syrian rebels control eastern Aleppo, [00:44.28]where an estimated 250,000 civilians are trapped. [00:50.72]An estimated 100,000 of them are believed to be children. [00:57.96]The rebels are fighting government forces, supported by Russia, that are trying to retake Aleppo. [01:07.84]United Nations officials have said intense bombing in eastern Aleppo [01:15.24]had left every neighborhood there unsafe. [01:18.84]They said the fighting has "devastated" civilian living conditions. [01:25.04]Attacks have also killed and wounded aid workers. [01:30.36]The Space for Hope supports 12 schools and four centers [01:36.96]providing psychological and financial aid to children. [01:43.32]Anas al-Basha helped lead these efforts. [01:48.36]He also was known for dressing as a clown [01:51.84]to try to cheer up the children and make them laugh. [01:56.72]The Associated Press reported that Basha was killed in an air strike [02:03.12]in the Mashhad neighborhood of eastern Aleppo. [02:08.00]Many civilians, including Basha's parents, [02:13.20]had already fled the increasing attacks in the city. [02:18.16]Basha's brother Mahmoud wrote about the loss on his Facebook page. [02:27.12]He said his brother remained in Aleppo to "help the civilians and give gifts [02:33.52]for the children in the streets to bring hope for them." [02:37.88]He said Basha "lived to make children laugh and happy [02:43.08]in the darkest, most dangerous place." [02:46.64]A co-worker of Basha told the AP [02:51.60]she will remember him as a friend who loved his work with children. [02:58.16]"He would act out skits for the children to break the walls between them," she said. [03:05.08]She noted that workers trying to help suffering children in Syria are currently "exhausted." [03:13.88]She said they are trying to stay strong so they can provide psychological support to young war victims. [03:24.04]Anas al-Basha's wife remains trapped in Aleppo. [03:29.88]The two got married just two months ago. [03:34.88]I'm Bryan Lynn. [03:36.36]更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
