[00:08.71]The election was not close. [00:11.38]Macron received 66 percent of the vote [00:15.36]compared to Marine Le Pen's 34 percent. [00:20.44]The president of the European Commission congratulated Macron on Twitter. [00:26.92]"Happy that the French have chosen a European future," he tweeted. [00:32.92]A spokesman for Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel [00:37.64]called the result a "victory for a strong and united Europe". [00:43.16]Le Pen, the National Front candidate, had said during the campaign [00:48.68]that she would withdraw France from the European Union. [00:53.52]She also opposed open immigration policies [00:57.76]and called for tough measures against terrorism and crime. [01:03.20]The final, run-off election took place two weeks [01:08.00]after 11 candidates competed in the first round of the presidential election. [01:15.88]For the first time, none of France's traditional parties were represented in the final vote. [01:23.92]Socialist President Francois Hollande chose not to seek another term in office. [01:31.44]Macron served in Hollande's Socialist administration. [01:36.44]But he started his own movement called En Marche! last year. [01:42.76]Ben Haddad, a French analyst with the Hudson Institute in Washington D.C., [01:49.68]says the 39-year-old president-elect represents a number of firsts for France. [01:56.96]"This is the youngest French president ever who was virtually unknown [02:01.80]three years ago, created his own movement from scratch just a year ago, [02:05.84]and is winning in (a) landslide with an optimistic, [02:09.00]reform-oriented, pro-European, liberal message." [02:12.72]Haddad told VOA that the election showed [02:16.96]that the two main political parties in France [02:20.40]did not find public support in this election. [02:24.84]He said French voters are expecting something new. [02:30.28]Macron has called for reforms to France's economy [02:35.76]including its job market to deal with the country's high unemployment. [02:42.80]He also called for reform of the EU. [02:47.68]However, he will need to build support in the French legislature [02:53.08]where his movement currently has no representation. [02:58.52]Macron has no experience as an elected official. [03:04.60]Macron, however, has strongly supported the EU. [03:09.32]European officials considered the French election very important [03:15.20]because of Britain's vote to leave the EU in June 2016. [03:22.48]France is a founding member of the European Union [03:26.60]and is the second largest country remaining in it after Germany. [03:33.24]If France left the EU, it might signal the end of the huge multinational organization. [03:42.52]The vote brought to an end one of France's most divisive presidential campaigns. [03:50.12]Marine Le Pen quickly conceded the election on Sunday. [03:55.36]But, she promised to continue efforts to get voters to fight globalization [04:01.76]and an open immigration policy. [04:05.76]She promised to oppose the new president's policies [04:09.60]in the upcoming elections for the legislature in June. [04:14.80]Le Pen led the National Front, a conservative party started by her father. [04:22.84]In Sunday's vote, she received a little more than one third of the votes cast. [04:30.60]However, she received a much higher percentage than her father [04:35.28]Jean-Marie Le Pen who ran for president in 2002. [04:40.88]Marine Le Pen ousted her father from the National Front because of his extreme views. [04:49.44]During the campaign she stepped down as party leader [04:53.60]in an effort to increase her appeal. [04:58.04]Fewer voters took part in the election than expected, [05:02.24]possibly because of anger over the combative campaign and traditional politics. [05:10.80]French officials said 4 million people submitted blank votes. [05:16.80]Although Macron has won a big victory, [05:21.08]he still faces critics both inside and outside the country. [05:28.00]Britain's Nigel Farage led the campaign to leave the EU in his country. [05:35.72]He said Macron's victory will guarantee that Le Pen [05:40.68]will win in the next election in 2022. [05:46.20]He said the French are not ready to leave the EU, [05:50.92]but one day they will. [05:54.40]I'm Mario Ritter. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
