[00:04.60]The Saint Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals [00:08.21]each have less than 50 games to play this season. [00:12.48]Both teams hope to win enough games to play [00:15.61] for the championship of North American baseball later in the year. [00:21.64]The Cardinals and Royals have a long-standing rivalry. [00:27.36] It is sometimes called the "Show-Me Series." [00:32.00]That is because both teams play their home games [00:35.86] in the American state of Missouri, known as the "Show-Me State." [00:42.52]This week, the Cardinals and Royals have been playing against each other in a series of games. [00:49.92] But it is not the usual "Show-Me Series" rivalry that people are talking about. [00:56.52]Instead, they are talking about a new battle that took place during the game Wednesday night. [01:04.36]The battle was between a member of the Cardinals' field crew and a cat. [01:10.96]Twenty-year-old Lucas Hackmann is a college student. [01:15.96]He works at the Cardinals' Busch Stadium in St. Louis. [01:20.88]On Wednesday night, he and other crew members discovered a small, gray cat [01:26.32]running around on the field in the middle of the game. [01:30.96]It was in the sixth inning. [01:33.48]The Royals were leading the Cardinals 5 to 4. [01:39.08]The Cardinals' Yadier Molina was at bat, and the bases were loaded. [01:45.00]But before Molina could swing at the ball, the cat ran onto the field. [01:50.76] It walked up to Royals' Lorenzo Cain in the outfield. [01:55.28]The player looked down and smiled at the small creature. [02:00.68]Lucas Hackmann quickly ran onto the field to remove the animal [02:05.00]so that the game could continue. [02:08.16]The cat tried to escape, but Hackmann was able to catch it. [02:13.36]However, the cat was not happy. [02:17.04] It began to attack the man, cutting into the skin, and biting his hands and fingers. [02:24.04]Hackmann appeared to be in pain, but continued to hold onto the cat. [02:30.56]The crowd laughed and cheered. [02:33.32]One television announcer said, [02:35.76]"You've got to hold them [cats] by the back of the neck, [02:38.52]just like the momma does!" [02:41.32]Hackmann and the cat did make it off the field together. And the game continued. [02:48.24]The Royals' pitcher then threw the ball to Molina. [02:51.76]He hit it into deep left field. [02:54.36]The ball landed in the crowd. It was a home run. [02:59.44]Because the bases were loaded, the Cardinals scored four runs. [03:04.48] Suddenly, the Royals were losing 8 to 5. [03:08.64]When the game ended, St. Louis had won. [03:13.12]People who follow the Cards have nicknamed the animal "Rally Cat." [03:17.84] A "rally" is when a player or team that has been playing poorly begins to play well. [03:25.84] The hashtag #RallyCat soon became a trending topic on Facebook and Twitter. [03:32.48] Hackmann -- a big Cards fan himself -- did not have a good night. [03:37.92]He had to go to the hospital because of the injuries he suffered. [03:43.76]Thursday morning, Hackmann told a St. Louis radio station [03:47.59] that he has never owned a cat. [03:50.80]He did not expect the cat to bite him, he said, [03:54.60]"but obviously, I was being kind of dumb there." [03:59.00] Rally Cat is not the only one getting attention on social media. [04:05.00]Hackmann said his Twitter account has "blown up" and "doubled in followers." [04:12.28]Hackmann said he does not know what happened to the Rally Cat [04:16.36] after he carried it off the field, but, in his words, [04:20.48]"hopefully we'll be reunited soon."
