[00:05.51]Having success and being able to meet one's goals requires knowledge, [00:12.56]a sense of direction, hard work and resources. [00:17.76]Some people might add to that list luck, [00:23.09]connections and perhaps a strong belief in yourself. [00:28.36]We accomplish our goals one step at a time, doing a little each day. [00:35.29]So, using your day effectively is important. [00:40.93]On many websites -- from Forbes magazine and Fast Company [00:47.04]to health and physical fitness sites [00:50.36]-- productivity experts share advice on how to achieve your career and life goals. [00:58.69]Most of the experts agree on one thing: [01:02.98]Starting your day on the right foot is most important. [01:08.93]Collected from these websites, [01:12.59]here are five ideas on how to start your day off right. [01:18.28]1. Get up an hour early. [01:23.12]People who get up early in the morning have a jump on the day. [01:29.15]For starters, they're awake! [01:32.05]And some studies show that our willpower and attention span [01:37.88]are strongest in the morning. [01:40.85]In fact, the morning may be the most productive part of your day. [01:46.55]In American English, we like to say, [01:50.18]"The early bird gets the worm." [01:53.42]Here, if you're a bird, the worm is the reward. [01:58.64]So, this expressions means that people who rise up early [02:03.66]have a head start and, therefore, are more likely to succeed. [02:09.67]Inventor, philosopher and writer Benjamin Franklin would probably agree. [02:16.96]Americans like to use Franklin's memorable expressions. [02:23.33]One of them is "Early to bed, early to rise, [02:28.63]makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise." [02:32.39]Of course, there are exceptions. [02:36.21]People who are "night owls" do their best work and their best thinking at night. [02:43.60]2. Drink a glass of water with lemon juice. [02:50.60]While your coffee is being prepared or waiting for your tea water to heat up, [02:57.86]drink a glass of water with lemon juice. [03:01.99]Why? Health experts say that drinking a combination of lemon juice [03:08.78]and water first thing in the morning jump-starts the body's metabolism. [03:15.78]Not only does it jump start your body's cells, [03:21.16]but this kind of drink keeps them moving throughout the day. [03:26.21]3. Don't answer email or jump into social media as soon as you get up. [03:35.11]Your coffee or tea is ready. [03:38.61]So, you decide to look at your email quickly or open up your Facebook account. [03:46.22]Well, don't. This is a great way to forget about the day ahead. [03:52.72]We've all done it. [03:55.49]You see a Facebook post from a friend you haven't seen in a long time. [04:00.95]He is angry about some political issue and the heated discussion pulls you in. [04:09.10]Before you know it, an hour has passed, you're angry with lawmakers [04:15.13]and it's not even nine in the morning yet! [04:19.10]You hurry out the door so as not to be late for work. [04:23.70]This is not the best way to start your day. [04:28.61]4. Exercise! [04:32.97]Some people may disagree with this one. [04:36.58]Exercising in the morning may not be for everyone. [04:41.28]Some people like to exercise after work or at night. [04:47.11]Physical fitness experts and trainers often suggest some form of exercise [04:55.05]in the morning because the middle of the day is a busy time for most people. [05:01.97]By the day's end, you may not have the time or energy to exercise. [05:08.11]How many times have you finished work and said to yourself, [05:12.94]"I'm too tired to exercise! I'll do it tomorrow." [05:17.04]Exercising in the morning prevents that from happening. [05:22.79]5. Think about your day ... at night. [05:28.56]Meditate, visualize -- whatever you call it -- take time [05:35.30]at the end of the day to think back on all the things that have happened. [05:41.00]Give thanks, if you want. [05:43.61]And spend a little time to think about tomorrow. [05:47.19]Some people who talk about "living in the present" may criticize this. [05:53.56]But it may you help to prepare if you take a few minutes [05:58.84]to think about what you need to do the next day. [06:03.28]Also, know that your day will probably change. [06:08.09]You probably won't have time to do everything you planned. [06:12.19]But that's fine. [06:14.12]If you did one thing, that means you are one step closer [06:18.88]in reaching one of your goals. [06:21.49]And if you follow this advice, [06:24.70]at least you've already gotten your exercise out of the way! [06:30.00]And that's the Health & Lifestyle report. [06:33.61]I'm Anna Matteo.
