[00:03.00]American tennis player Serena Williams is looking to make history [00:09.76]by winning a record 24th Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open on Saturday. [00:19.12]Across the net will be 20-year-old Naomi Osaka. [00:23.87]She has already made history of her own; [00:27.68]she is the first Japanese woman to reach a Grand Slam tennis final. [00:34.61]Osaka played Williams earlier this year in Miami, Florida. [00:41.11]Williams was still returning to form [00:44.25]after giving birth to her daughter last September. [00:48.90]Osaka won the match 6-3, 6-2. [00:53.39]At important points during that match, [00:56.79]Osaka said she asked herself, "What would Serena do?" [01:02.09]Then, she served aces just like her idol would. [01:06.84]Osaka said of Williams after that match, [01:10.45]"She's the main reason why I started playing tennis." [01:15.10]Osaka was born in Osaka, Japan, to a Japanese mother and a Haitian father. [01:23.77]She holds both Japanese and American citizenship. [01:28.29]But she has chosen to compete for the Japanese Tennis Association. [01:34.53]"I can understand way more Japanese than I can speak," [01:39.42]Osaka told reporters at USA Today. [01:43.15]"And when I go to Japan people are confused. [01:47.33]From my name, they don't expect to see a black girl." [01:51.77]Already in her short career, Osaka has become known [01:57.15]for defeating several top players in women's tennis. [02:01.33]Osaka beat former U.S. Open champion Samantha Stosur of Australia in 2014, [02:09.82]not long after becoming a professional. [02:13.22]And in last year's U.S. Open, [02:16.12]she defeated defending champion Angelique Kerber in the first round. [02:22.10]On Thursday, Osaka defeated American Madison Keys to reach the U.S. Open final. [02:30.41]Keys was runner-up in last year's U.S. Open. [02:34.77]After her victory, Osaka was asked how she was able to play well [02:41.64]at several critical moments of the game. [02:44.57]She said, "This is going to sound really bad, [02:48.35]but I was just thinking I really want to play Serena." [02:52.72]Osaka added, "I always dreamed that I would play Serena in the final of a Grand Slam." [03:00.24]Osaka's dream has come true. [03:03.45]Williams easily won her semifinal match Thursday against Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia. [03:12.33]Williams has won 23 Grand Slam titles, [03:16.62]including seven U.S. Open championships. [03:20.67]She missed the 2017 U.S. Open because she gave birth to her daughter on September 1. [03:29.21]Williams then had to take time off from tennis because of her difficult birth experience. [03:36.08]A win Saturday would be Williams' first Grand Slam title as a mother. [03:42.51]It would also give her a record-tying 24 Grand Slam victories. [03:49.01]Australia's Margaret Court currently holds the record. [03:53.58]After her win on Thursday night, Williams said, [03:57.97]"No matter what happens in any match – semis, finals [04:02.99]– I just feel like I've won already." [04:05.99]Williams' first Grand Slam title came in 1999 at the U.S. Open. [04:14.17]At the time, Osaka was not yet two years old. [04:18.89]Osaka gave a simple answer when asked what her message is [04:24.12]to Williams ahead of Saturday's final. [04:28.09]"I love you," Osaka said. [04:30.57]And that's What's Trending Today.
