[00:11.56]She collects her sheet music and runs out the door. [00:16.88]Inside the vehicle, music teacher Evan Kam stands by a piano. [00:23.84]He holds a container of alcohol-based hand cleaner and wears a protective face covering. [00:31.72]Schools in Hong Kong have been closed since late January because of the coronavirus outbreak. [00:40.32]Students have been asked to take classes online. [00:45.80]But that does not work very well for piano lessons. [00:51.56]Ming's Piano, a music school with 12 teachers and about 200 students, [00:59.24]is using three trucks to help bring lessons to students' homes. [01:05.44]The effort helps keep the business in operation. [01:10.56]For students like Sophia, the lessons are a rare and welcome chance to get out of her home. [01:19.48]Her mother, Wendy Yeung, said, "I feel very depressed myself, not to mention my children... [01:27.88]They are always asking: ‘When can we go out to play? Where can I go? What else can I do?'" [01:36.24]"Now," she said, "we have an option." [01:40.48]Ming's Piano lost more than two-thirds of its business after the outbreak. [01:46.56]Many of the school's students wanted to continue with music lessons [01:52.68]but did not want to use up masks or take public transportation, said Jessica Lam. [02:00.36]She is the business development manager for Ming's Piano. [02:05.40]The school took its business on the road in late February. [02:09.84]It is now operating at 70 percent of its pre-outbreak levels. [02:16.96]The piano gets cleaned between lessons. [02:20.72]The truck is equipped with an air cleaner and lighting, which means the engine has to be running. [02:29.92]As the truck's engine makes a soft noise under her feet, [02:34.56]Cheung works on the song she likes most -- "Let it Go", from the Disney movie "Frozen." [02:41.76]On this day, she plays with both hands, an improvement from last week. [02:48.16]Her teacher, Kam, shows his approval. [02:52.84]Outside, cars speed by. [02:55.76]Sometimes, people walking by the truck try to have a look inside. [03:02.16]Kam said helping students learn to make small improvements would have been difficult through a video lesson. [03:10.44]Teaching in a truck feels the same as teaching in a music studio, Kam notes. [03:17.36]Kam said he visits six or seven students a day, [03:21.76]including some new students living in villages far away from populated areas. [03:28.20]Kam said, "Distance is not a limit."
