[00:15.16]The accounts belonged to former President Barack Obama, [00:20.20]former Vice President Joe Biden, Tesla founder Elon Musk and others. [00:28.72]Florida state attorney Andrew Warren said suspect Graham Ivan Clark [00:35.44]is "a 17-year-old kid who apparently just graduated high school." [00:43.08]He added, "But make no mistake, this was not an ordinary 17-year-old. [00:49.96]This was a highly sophisticated attack on a magnitude not seen before." [00:58.44]He called Clark the "mastermind" of the attack. [01:04.32]Clark was arrested Friday in Tampa, Florida. [01:09.24]He will be charged as an adult under Florida law. [01:15.56]Federal officials from California [01:18.80]also charged Mason Sheppard, a 19-year-old Briton, [01:25.12]and Nima Fazeli, 22, of Orlando, Florida [01:30.88]in the nationwide investigation into the attack. [01:35.28]Warren told reporters at a news conference Friday, [01:40.32]"Clark hacked into the Twitter accounts of famous people and celebrities, [01:46.96]but they were not the primary victims." [01:51.28]He said Clark took "over $100,000 in Bitcoin in just one day." [02:01.00]Bitcoin is a form of digital money not supported by any government [02:07.40]but exchanged by many people online. [02:12.96]On July 15, the hackers took control and sent out false tweets [02:20.08]from the accounts of Musk, Obama, and Biden. [02:25.68]Others included Amazon's Jeff Bezos, Microsoft's Bill Gates [02:32.96]and billionaires Michael Bloomberg and Warren Buffett. [02:39.12]Entertainers Kanye West and his wife, Kim Kardashian West, were also hacked. [02:48.04]The tweets offered to send $2,000 for every $1,000 [02:55.08]sent to an anonymous Bitcoin address. [03:00.32]Over $100,000 in bitcoins were sent to the address [03:05.44]before Twitter could disable the accounts and removed the posts. [03:12.44]On Thursday, Twitter said in an update that the hackers [03:17.44]"targeted a small number of employees through a phone spear phishing attack" [03:24.60]to gain access to passwords and other credentials. [03:30.12]The social media company said the attackers then used the access to target [03:36.76]130 accounts, sent Tweets from 45, accessed direct messages from 36, [03:46.60]and downloaded data from seven others. [03:51.48]Florida officials said Clark is facing 30 felony charges. [03:57.68]Twitter said it would provide a more detailed report later [04:03.52]"given the ongoing law enforcement investigation."
