[ti:China Prepares Large Introduction of Coronavirus Vaccines] [by:www.51voa.com] [00:00.00]更多听力请访问51VOA.COM [00:00.04]Local governments across China are placing orders [00:06.44]for experimental, Chinese-made coronavirus vaccines. [00:14.20]Health officials, meanwhile, have not said how well they work [00:20.36]or how many they may get to the country's 1.4 billion people. [00:28.24]Vaccine developers are speeding up final testing, [00:33.56]China's foreign minister said during a United Nations meeting last week. [00:41.24]More than 1 million health care workers and others in China [00:46.48]who are considered at high risk of infection [00:50.84]have already received experimental vaccines [00:55.76]under emergency use permission. [01:00.04]Developers have not publicly discussed [01:03.76]how effective their vaccines are. [01:07.48]They have also not said if there are any side effects. [01:13.52]China's pharmaceutical industry has at least five vaccines [01:20.48]from four producers being tested in more than 12 countries, [01:26.52]including Russia, Egypt and Mexico. [01:31.48]Even if those tests are successful, [01:35.64]the vaccines will probably not be used in the United States, [01:41.60]Europe, Japan and other developed countries, health experts say. [01:49.40]That's because the approval process is too complex [01:53.84]for Chinese vaccine manufacturers. [01:58.16]China said it will take steps to make sure the vaccines [02:03.08]have a low price for developing countries. [02:07.80]It has actively been seeking sales agreements around the world. [02:13.92]On Sunday, 1.2 million doses of the Chinese company Sinovac's [02:22.08]vaccine arrived in Indonesia, the government said. [02:27.72]"We are very grateful, thank God, the vaccine is now available [02:34.08]so that we can immediately curb the spread [02:38.04]of the COVID-19 disease," President Joko Widodo said. [02:45.12]Only one Chinese developer, Sinopharm, [02:49.56]has asked for final market approval for its vaccine. [02:54.88]It made the announcement in November. [02:58.60]Other developers in China have had vaccines approved [03:03.88]only for emergency use on people considered at high risk. [03:10.32]"We must be prepared for large-scale production," [03:15.16]Vice Premier Sun Chunlan said during a visit last week to developers, [03:22.64]China's official Xinhua News Agency reported. [03:27.76]The government has not said how many people it plans to vaccinate. [03:33.64]Sun said government plans to begin vaccinating [03:38.28]high-risk populations this month. [03:41.88]The Chinese companies are using more traditional methods [03:46.32]in their vaccine development than Western companies. [03:51.16]For example, the American company Pfizer's vaccine [03:56.32]must be kept frozen at temperatures as low as minus 70 degrees Celsius. [04:04.44]The Chinese say their vaccine can be stored at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. [04:12.04]The Chinese producers have not explained [04:15.40]how their vaccine would be distributed. [04:19.68]Health experts question why China is using experimental vaccines [04:25.68]in such large amounts now that COVID-19 [04:30.16]is largely under control within its borders. [04:34.88]Chinese health officials have said the country will be able to manufacture [04:41.04]610 million doses by the end of this year. [04:46.32]They said they will aim to make 1 billion doses next year. [04:52.92]The government of Jiangsu province released a request [04:57.68]to buy vaccines from Sinovac and Sinopharm [05:02.36]on Wednesday for emergency use. [05:06.04]The large city of Nanjing is in the province. [05:11.76]Officials in the western province of Sichuan, [05:16.08]which has about 85 million people, [05:19.32]announced Monday they were already buying vaccines. [05:24.28]They said the vaccine would cost a total of $60 [05:30.04]and be given in two shots. [05:33.36]In November, the Communist Party secretary for Sinopharm [05:39.32]said almost 1 million people had received its vaccine. [05:44.72]In September, the head of Sinovac said about 3,000 of its employees [05:52.16]had taken the company's vaccine. [05:55.64]He said Sinovac provided tens of thousands of doses [06:01.08]to the Beijing city government. [06:04.24]I'm Susan Shand. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
