[ti:Should a King Be More than a Queen in Card Games?] [by:www.51voa.com] [00:00.00]更多听力请访问51VOA.COM [00:00.04]A woman in the Netherlands was unhappy [00:03.40]that a king is more valuable than a queen [00:06.92]in a deck of playing cards. [00:10.32]Indy Mellink, 23, went to school to study psychology. [00:17.88]She wondered if that situation could be changed. [00:21.44]She said rating a male higher than a female [00:25.92]was just another part of life that makes people think [00:29.68]men are more important than women. [00:33.08]Some people call this gender inequality. [00:37.28]Instead, treating women and men the same, [00:41.44]they say, is an example of gender neutrality. [00:46.52]Some people might say "it's just a card game." [00:50.48]But Mellink does not agree. [00:53.76]She said: "even subtle inequalities like this do play a big role" [01:01.56]in influencing the way the world sees women. [01:06.20]So what did she do? [01:09.08]Mellink thought for a while [01:11.24]about how to change the pictures on the cards. [01:14.96]After some time, she came up with an idea [01:18.68]that most people know because of the Olympics. [01:22.24]The most important card would no longer be the king, [01:26.04]it would be gold. [01:27.80]The next card would be silver and the third, bronze. [01:32.44]For that reason, Mellink's cards are now called GSB, [01:37.76]which stands for Gold, Silver, Bronze. [01:42.44]She sold the first 50 decks to friends and family. [01:46.36]The cards are now being sold online. [01:49.84]About 1,500 decks have been sent to buyers around the world. [01:55.48]Card players involved in product testing said [01:59.72]they had never thought about [02:01.40]gender inequality in their games before. [02:04.96]Changes to the rules of card games that rank [02:09.12]the king above the queen may take some time. [02:13.80]But, some serious players are trying out Mellink's cards. [02:18.88]Berit van Dobbenburgh is head of the Dutch Bridge Association. [02:25.20]She gave it a try, [02:27.80]and said she thought it was a good idea [02:31.00]to think about gender neutrality. [02:34.48]"It's great that someone of this age has noticed this. [02:38.76]It's the new generation," she said. [02:42.40]I'm Dan Friedell. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
