[00:15.20]Reports say they threatened Vice President Mike Pence. [00:21.72]"Hang Mike Pence!" they cried as they pushed inside. [00:27.36]They had built gallows outside, complete with a tied rope. [00:33.84]Guns and small explosives were hidden nearby. [00:39.84]Now, more stories are beginning to describe [00:44.08]what really happened last week [00:46.84]when attackers breached the Capitol. [00:50.44]They were looking for the vice president [00:53.36]and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. [00:57.44]They were not just a group of Trump supporters wearing MAGA hats. [01:03.44]MAGA stands for Make America Great Again [01:08.24]and is a favorite Trump statement. [01:11.28]Congressman Jim McGovern described how he saw the crowd. [01:17.08]"What I saw in front of me," he said, [01:20.64]"was basically home-grown fascism, out of control." [01:26.92]Pelosi said Sunday on American television [01:30.80]that the breach was "a well-planned, organized group [01:35.24]with leadership and guidance and direction." [01:40.44]Smartphone videos are being found, [01:43.60]many from the attackers themselves, [01:46.80]and lawmakers are telling their stories. [01:50.76]Thousands of attackers had moved into the area. [01:54.88]They quickly pushed through the outnumbered police. [01:59.56]Outside, a man threw a heavy fire extinguisher [02:04.40]at the head of a police officer. [02:07.56]Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick was wounded in the attack. [02:13.72]He died the next night. [02:16.80]Officials say he had been hit in the head with a fire extinguisher. [02:22.68]At about 2 p.m., Pence was taken from the Senate to a secret area. [02:29.48]Police announced security measures in the Capitol building, [02:34.88]which is often called the "People's House." [02:39.32]At 2:15 p.m., a voice said on the building's sound system: [02:44.92]"The protesters are in the building." [02:47.88]The doors of the House of Representatives were barricaded. [02:53.08]Lawmakers inside were told they may need to hide [02:57.76]or go to small rooms connected to the House floor [03:02.12]because the attackers were in the building. [03:05.92]Capitol Police pulled Pelosi away from her podium, [03:10.92]she told American television. [03:13.76]At 2:44 p.m., lawmakers inside the House chamber [03:19.28]were getting ready to be leave. [03:21.80]They heard the gunshot that killed Ashli Babbit, [03:26.40]as she climbed through a broken window. [03:29.88]Ten minutes later, House lawmakers [03:33.16]and employees were taken to a secure room. [03:37.60]The attackers broke into Pelosi's offices [03:41.68]while her employees hid in another room. [03:45.40]They sat silent, in the dark for more than two hours. [03:51.56]On the Senate side, Capitol Police had ordered [03:55.64]all workers and reporters and any nearby senators [04:00.16]into the Senate chamber and locked it. [04:03.52]At one point about 200 people were inside. [04:08.52]They were guarded by an officer [04:11.24]holding what appeared to be large guns. [04:16.12]Officials then moved everyone out of the chamber [04:19.56]and into a secure room. [04:22.28]The Senate employees held onto boxes [04:26.04]holding the Electoral College papers. [04:29.96]The attackers breached the now empty Senate chamber. [04:35.04]They took pictures and videos of themselves. [04:39.36]Outside the chamber, the attackers continued to search for lawmakers. [04:45.08]"Where are they?" people could be heard yelling. [04:49.24]At about 5:30 p.m., the National Guard arrived [04:54.24]and an effort began to clear the building. [04:57.92]Using tear gas, they pushed the attackers [05:01.92]out of the building and on to the grass. [05:05.64]Within the hour, the House and Senate had returned to work. [05:10.88]Lawmakers confirmed Biden's election victory early the next morning. [05:17.56]Many were still shocked by the events. [05:21.52]Federal and local police now have [05:24.32]begun arresting those involved in the breach. [05:28.08]More arrests are expected [05:31.08]as police look at videos and pictures on social media. [05:36.80]The justice department has charged at least 13 people so far. [05:43.04]Others have been charged by the District of Columbia. [05:47.52]Some face gun charges. [05:50.64]Those arrested include Jake Angeli. [05:54.80]He wore a fur hat with horns. [05:58.24]He has attended many Trump events [06:01.68]and is a well-known believer in conspiracies. [06:06.72]Adam Johnson was photographed smiling as he took Pelosi's lectern. [06:15.32]Richard Barnett was photographed with his feet on Pelosi's desk. [06:21.88]Eric Munchel was photographed in military clothing [06:26.84]holding plastic restraints in the Senate Chamber. [06:32.24]And Derrick Evans, [06:34.28]a newly-elected member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, [06:40.00]also was arrested. [06:42.72]He has since resigned.
