[00:11.20]U.S. Customs and Immigration officials said the man, [00:15.80]Rudy Kurniawan, was sent back to his home country of Indonesia. [00:22.76]Between 2004 and 2012, he made millions of dollars [00:28.12]by putting low-cost wines from Napa Valley [00:31.64]into fake bottles of expensive wines. [00:36.44]The 44-year-old Indonesian did it all from his home [00:40.88]outside of Los Angeles, California. [00:45.44]Kurniawan came to the U.S. on a student visa in the 1990s. [00:52.12]He unsuccessfully applied for asylum protection [00:56.20]and was ordered to leave the country in 2003. [01:01.08]But he stayed illegally. [01:04.24]Kurniawan's family gained their wealth [01:07.92]operating a beer supply business in Indonesia. [01:12.20]He claimed to be a buyer and seller of rare wines [01:17.68]and made millions of dollars at auctions. [01:21.52]Some collectors called him "Dr. Conti" [01:25.24]for his love of a French Burgundy wine, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. [01:31.12]In one auction in 2006, Kurniawan sold a record $24.7 million of wine. [01:41.28]His plans started to fall apart [01:43.76]when some of his wines were found to be fakes. [01:48.64]Christie's is a company that auctions rare and expensive items. [01:55.44]In 2007, Christie's withdrew a bottle that Kurniawan said [02:00.80]was a 1982 Chateau Le Pin. [02:04.00]The company said it was a fake. [02:07.48]In 2008, his $600,000-collection of Domaine Ponsot wine [02:12.72]was also pulled from an auction. [02:16.40]Kurniawan claimed that one bottle was made in 1929. [02:22.04]But the winemaker did not begin selling that kind of wine until 1934. [02:29.36]When the FBI searched his home in 2012, [02:32.84]law enforcement officials found hundreds of bottles, corks and labels. [02:40.12]At Kurniawan's trial, a wine expert testified [02:44.56]that he collected 19,000 fake wine labels [02:48.48]from 27 of the world's best wines. [02:53.16]And Billionaire William Koch, a wine collector, [02:57.16]said he paid Kurniawan $2.1 million for 219 fake bottles of wine. [03:06.08]Government lawyers said [03:07.68]he might have sold as many as 12,000 fake bottles of wine. [03:13.80]Many are still in people's collections. [03:17.84]With money from the fraud, Kurniawan bought expensive cars [03:23.24]including a Lamborghini and paid for clothes and other living expenses. [03:30.04]The government took $20 million worth of his property. [03:35.72]And the court also ordered Kurniawan [03:38.44]to return $28.4 million to seven victims. [03:45.00]He was found guilty of fraud in 2013 and spent seven years in prison. [03:52.20]Last week, U.S. immigration officials said [03:55.68]Kurniawan is a "public safety threat" [03:58.68]and sent him back to Indonesia. [04:02.68]I'm Jonathan Evans. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
