[00:10.92]Gaza health officials say at least 63 children [00:15.28]are among the 217 Palestinians who have been killed in Gaza. [00:22.28]The fighting between Israel and Hamas began on May 10. [00:28.56]On example is seven-year-old Suzy Ishkontana. [00:34.28]She spent hours Sunday under the wreckage of her family home. [00:39.92]Her brothers, sisters and mother died. [00:44.96]Now she speaks or eats very little. [00:49.20]In Israel, 12 people have been killed by rockets fired [00:53.88]by the militant group Hamas which rules Gaza. [00:57.76]All but one of the people killed were civilians. [01:02.20]One was a five-year-old boy. [01:06.40]For many children, it is trauma they have experienced for much of their lives. [01:12.00]Israel and Hamas also fought wars in 2009, 2012 and 2014. [01:20.12]Each time, Israel has launched heavy airstrikes [01:24.80]in the small area where 2 million people live. [01:30.12]Israel says it does everything it can to prevent civilian deaths. [01:35.80]Sometimes, Israel sends warnings to people [01:39.64]to leave buildings that are about to be bombed. [01:44.24]Hamas has fired hundreds of rockets, [01:47.08]but most are stopped by Israel's defense system. [01:52.24]Israel also continues to bomb targets in Gaza. [01:58.00]The Ishkontana family was buried under their home early Sunday, [02:02.56]after intense bombing of Gaza City. [02:06.72]Israel said it was targeting a Hamas tunnel network. [02:11.80]The strikes came without warning. [02:15.24]Riad Ishkontana said he was buried for five hours [02:20.04]under a big piece of wreckage. [02:22.60]He was unable to reach his wife and five children. [02:28.40]"I was listening to their voices beneath the rubble. [02:32.08]I heard Dana and Zain calling, ‘Dad! Dad!' [02:35.84]before their voices faded and then I realized they had died," he said, [02:41.68]speaking about two of his children. [02:45.80]Suzy was brought to the hospital alive, [02:48.96]the second-oldest of his three daughters and two sons. [02:53.40]She was the only survivor. [02:57.64]The young girl was in "severe trauma and shock," said Dr. Zuhair Al-Jaro. [03:05.56]He said the hospital could not get her the psychological treatment she needs [03:10.44]because of the continued fighting. [03:14.12]"She has entered into a deep depression," Al-Jaro said. [03:19.52]The Ishkontanas were just one family destroyed that day. [03:24.92]The Israeli military said the strikes Sunday [03:28.44]targeted Hamas tunnels under Gaza City. [03:32.92]The strikes hit al-Wahda Street. [03:35.16]Reports say it is one of the city's busiest streets [03:40.08]and has many buildings where people live, [03:42.88]and includes stores and restaurants. [03:47.64]Three buildings were destroyed, and many people [03:51.12]from at least three families were killed. [03:55.16]In all 42 people died, including 10 children and 16 women. [04:02.92]Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus is an Israeli military spokesman. [04:08.80]He said the airstrikes caused a tunnel to collapse, [04:12.92]bringing houses down with it. [04:16.16]He said civilian deaths "were not the aim." [04:21.08]The Norwegian Refugee Council [04:23.20]is a group that aims to help displaced people. [04:28.00]It said 11 of the children killed in this war [04:31.36]were involved in its program. [04:34.32]One of the children was eight-year-old Dana, Suzy's sister. [04:39.80]Hozayfa Yazji is with the Norwegian Refugee Council. [04:44.72]The violence "will of course affect the psychology of these kids," he said. [04:50.12]"We are expecting that ... the situation will be much worse [04:54.24]and more children will need more support." [04:58.60]The refugee council says it works with 118 schools in Gaza, [05:03.84]affecting more than 75,000 students. [05:07.48]Its Better Learning Program trains teachers to help traumatized children [05:13.56]and organizes fun exercises to ease stress. [05:19.84]Jan Egeland is the council's secretary-general. [05:23.56]He called for a cease-fire, saying, [05:26.92]"Spare these children and their families. [05:29.92]Stop bombing them now." [05:33.32]But in the longer term, he called for an end to the blockade on Gaza [05:38.56]and the occupation of Palestinian territory. [05:43.20]It is necessary "if we are to avoid more trauma and death [05:47.72]among children," he said. [05:51.16]I'm Jonathan Evans. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
