[00:13.12]The move may lead to the end of one of Hollywood's oldest [00:18.36]and most-watched awards shows. [00:22.64]The NBC announcement may have been caused by growing criticism [00:28.44]of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), [00:34.84]the organization awarding the Golden Globes. [00:39.20]Film production companies, movie stars [00:42.44]and other parts of the movie industry [00:45.64]have criticized the organization for its lack of diversity. [00:50.80]They also accused the Golden Globes of creating a corrupt environment. [00:57.60]Also on Monday, Variety and Deadline Hollywood [01:01.96]reported that actor Tom Cruise [01:04.96]returned his three Golden Globes to the organization. [01:10.48]He won those awards for his performances in Jerry Maguire, [01:15.88]Magnolia and Born on the Fourth of July. [01:19.80]In a statement, NBC said [01:22.92]it believes the Hollywood Foreign Press Association [01:26.92]is committed to change, but the changes needed [01:30.72]cannot come quickly enough for next year's show. [01:35.40]"However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, [01:40.16]and we feel strongly that the HFPA [01:44.68]needs time to do it right," the network said. [01:48.60]"We are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show [01:53.04]in January 2023," it added. [01:57.92]The organization has been criticized [02:01.08]following an investigative report in February [02:04.76]by The Los Angeles Times. [02:07.48]The story questioned the organization's record on diversity. [02:13.00]HFPA has about 90 members and none are Black. [02:20.28]It has promised to change and last week [02:23.44]approved a plan to diversify its membership, [02:27.68]but several big Hollywood studios, including Netflix, [02:32.36]Amazon and Warner Brothers [02:35.28]have threatened to end their relationships with the organization. [02:39.88]Stating that he did not "believe" HFPA's new plan [02:45.28]would be effective, Netflix chief Ted Sarandos [02:50.52]criticized "the lack of clear standards [02:53.72]for how your members should operate." [02:56.68]In a letter sent Sunday and shared with reporters Monday, [03:01.76]WarnerMedia said it would cease its relationship with HFPA [03:08.12]until it made changes. [03:10.40]"For far too long, demands for perks, special favors [03:15.76]and unprofessional requests have been made to our teams [03:20.56]and to others across the industry," [03:23.36]WarnerMedia executives said in a letter. [03:26.92]Criticism of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is not new, [03:32.80]but has increased over the last six weeks. [03:37.20]Members of the HFPA are mostly little-known journalists [03:42.20]who make money from the yearly Golden Globes show. [03:46.60]Mark Ruffalo is a Golden Globes winner. [03:50.08]He said he "cannot feel proud or happy" about receiving the award. [03:55.52]Scarlett Johansson said HFPA press conferences [04:00.60]included "sexist questions" and possible "sexual harassment." [04:06.16]After the NBC announcement, the HFPA [04:10.28]said its plan for changes would lead to new members, [04:14.64]new leadership and several policy changes. [04:19.04]The organization said in a statement, [04:22.32]"We invite our partners in the industry to the table [04:26.36]to work with us on the systemic reform that is long overdue, [04:31.84]both in our organization as well as within the industry at large." [04:37.92]Last week, the organization approved plans [04:41.52]to add at least 20 new members this year, [04:45.16]with a focus on Black members. [04:48.08]It also plans to increase its total membership [04:51.96]by 50 percent in the next 18 months. [04:56.88]Tina Tchen is the president of Time's Up. [05:00.48]She called the HFPA's plan nothing but false "platitudes." [05:06.36]"These measures ensure that the current membership [05:09.84]of the HFPA will remain in the majority," she said. [05:15.48]Time's Up was created in 2019 following the Weinstein case [05:21.56]to support victims of sexual harassment in the movie industry. [05:27.00]I'm Susan Shand. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
