[00:10.52]The movie streaming service is joining forces [00:14.12]with Spielberg's production company, Amblin Partners, [00:18.40]to make several films each year. [00:22.16]The partnership is a big step for Netflix [00:25.84]as it faces competition from other streaming services. [00:31.36]The deal announced Monday does not specifically include [00:37.04]any movies that Spielberg will direct himself. [00:41.64]For example, in December, [00:44.68]he will release the musical film "West Side Story" [00:48.80]with Disney's company 20th Century Studios. [00:53.44]Amblin also has a separate deal [00:57.00]with Universal Pictures for film releases. [01:01.28]In a statement, Spielberg said that storytelling [01:05.36]will always be "at the center of everything we do." [01:11.36]And when he and Netflix's Ted Sarandos began talks, [01:16.56]he knew this would be great way [01:19.56]to tell new stories and reach new audiences. [01:24.40]The statement goes on to say that the partnership [01:28.32]will be very satisfying for Spielberg personally, [01:33.16]and he cannot wait to get started with the Netflix team. [01:39.00]Amblin Partners takes its name [01:41.92]from a 1968 film short by Spielberg. [01:47.24]The company has helped produce many films outside of those [01:52.28]made my Spielberg, including "1917" and "Green Book." [01:59.64]Netflix and Amblin have worked together in the past [02:04.12]on television series. [02:07.44]They also worked together on "The Trial of the Chicago 7," [02:12.68]a film directed by Aaron Sorkin. [02:17.52]It was co-produced by Amblin and sold [02:21.08]by Paramount Pictures to Netflix during the pandemic. [02:26.52]Spielberg has in the past been known as someone [02:30.64]who opposes movie streaming. [02:34.28]A headline from the news website Deadline.com on Monday [02:39.32]asked if hell had frozen over. [02:43.44]The expression suggests that the impossible has happened: [02:49.08]Spielberg finally accepts the streaming of movies. [02:53.88]But in 2019, he said that he was not against it, [02:59.28]adding that people have mistakenly believed that about him. [03:05.44]In 2019, several news stories reported [03:09.64]that Spielberg compared streamed film releases [03:13.76]to made-for-television movies. [03:17.76]said such films should compete for television awards, [03:22.48]or Emmys, not film awards, or Oscars. [03:27.28]That year, Spielberg said he is a "firm believer" [03:31.72]that movie theaters should be around in the future. [03:36.56]He also said that, whether on television or in a theater, [03:41.84]what matters is "a great story and everyone [03:45.52]should have access to great stories." [03:49.28]Also that year, in an email to the New York Times, [03:52.96]Spielberg wrote that people should have the chance [03:57.08]to share a film experience at theaters. [04:01.08]He said movie theaters enable crowds to laugh, [04:05.12]cry and be afraid together, [04:08.56]"so that...they might feel a little less like strangers." [04:14.52]His email also said he wants movie theaters to survive [04:19.28]and to remain important to American culture. [04:25.04]Since then, the lines between streaming and theaters [04:29.40]have become less clear. [04:32.88]For example, Netflix has presented some of its most popular [04:38.04]film releases in theaters for a week or more. [04:43.60]And traditional film companies like Disney and Warner Brothers [04:49.52]now send their movies to theaters and to streaming services. [04:56.44]Netflix's Ted Sarandos said, "Steven is a creative visionary [05:02.92]and leader and, like so many others around the world, [05:08.04]my growing up was shaped by his memorable characters and stories." [05:15.00]He added that Netflix is honored and pleased [05:19.16]to be part of this period in Spielberg's filmmaking history. [05:25.00]I'm Alice Bryant. [05:27.84]更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
