[00:12.48]A report detailing what the government knows about UFOs [00:18.40]is expected to be made public this month. [00:23.84]While it is not known what new information the report will include, [00:29.20]two officials with knowledge of it said no aliens will be uncovered. [00:37.88]The officials, speaking to The Associated Press, [00:42.16]said the report found no link to aliens [00:47.52]from unexplained sightings also captured on video. [00:53.88]The two officials did not want to be named [00:57.40]because they did not have permission to publicly discuss the report. [01:04.32]They said the report will not rule out the possibility [01:09.08]that unexplained sightings could be linked [01:13.20]to military activities involving other nations. [01:19.40]The main conclusions about what the U.S. government knows about UFOs [01:25.72]have already been reported. [01:29.12]But the full report is expected to present [01:33.24]a more complete picture of available data. [01:38.48]U.S. lawmakers ordered an investigation into UFOs [01:44.24]because of concerns about national security threats from enemies. [01:49.76]The government resisted talking about UFOs for generations. [01:55.92]Republican Senator Marco Rubio of Florida [01:59.60]was one lawmaker who wanted the investigation. [02:03.36]He said, "there is stuff flying in our airspace." [02:08.56]He continued, "We don't know what it is. We need to find out." [02:16.16]Congress late last year told the director of national intelligence [02:20.92]to report on UFO data from multiple government agencies within 180 days. [02:29.36]That time period is about up. [02:32.92]The intelligence office has not said when the full document will be released. [02:38.80]The bill passed by Congress asked the intelligence director [02:43.48]to provide any evidence that a possible enemy may have flight technology [02:50.76]that could put the United States at risk. [02:55.16]Flight technology has become much more developed in recent years. [03:01.24]There is concern among some U.S. officials that enemies [03:04.92]may have technology that could be a risk to U.S. military sites, [03:10.68]including nuclear missile bases. [03:14.00]But sometimes when lawmakers talk about the issue, [03:19.20]they leave room for explanations that might not be from this planet. [03:28.00]"Right now there are a lot of unanswered questions," [03:32.24]Democratic Representative Adam Schiff of California recently told NBC. [03:40.12]"If other nations have capabilities that we don't know of, we want to find out. [03:46.00]If there's some explanation other than that, we want to learn that, too." [03:53.12]Luis Elizondo is the former head [03:57.28]of the Pentagon's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program. [04:02.76]He said he does not believe that unexplained sightings [04:08.64]were another country's technology [04:11.20]because it would be impossible to keep that secret. [04:17.32]Elizondo accused the Defense Department of trying to discredit him. [04:23.68]He said there is much more information the U.S. has [04:28.56]on UFOs that is kept secret. [04:33.76]Pilots and sky-watchers [04:36.60]have long reported UFO sightings in U.S. airspace. [04:42.44]They seem to travel at unusual speeds or directions. [04:48.56]In most cases, however, such mysteries [04:52.56]are explained after an investigation. [04:56.96]In 1960, the CIA said 6,500 objects [05:03.88]had been reported to the U.S. Air Force over a 13-year period. [05:11.20]The CIA said the Air Force concluded there was no evidence [05:16.24]that those sightings were hostile or related to alien spaceships. [05:23.44]Reports of UFOs have continued since then. [05:27.20]Some people who study the subject say investigations have been limited [05:32.32]by the stigma of the subject. [05:36.16]They also note the government has a history of staying silent or lying [05:41.52]about investigations of UFOs. [05:45.60]In 2017, The New York Times reported on a five-year [05:51.88]U.S. Defense Department program to investigate UFOs. [05:58.56]The Pentagon then released videos, leaked earlier, [06:02.88]of military pilots seeing objects they could not identify. [06:09.68]The Navy announced in 2019 it would create an official process [06:15.08]for its pilots to report UFOs. [06:18.96]And in August, the Defense Department created a special group [06:24.04]to study, search for, and record UFO sightings. [06:29.72]I'm Dan Friedell. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
