[00:07.76]A failed Florida businessman. [00:10.84]These are some of the details about the main suspect [00:15.76]in the killing of Haitian president Jovenel Moise. [00:21.32]Local officials identified the suspect [00:24.60]as Christian Emmanuel Sanon, a 62-year-old Haitian. [00:30.80]He once expressed a desire to lead his country in a YouTube video. [00:36.84]However, he is unknown among Haitian political groups. [00:42.12]And friends suggested that those really behind the killing had tricked him. [00:48.68]A friend of Sanon in the American state of Florida [00:52.56]told The Associated Press the suspect is a religious leader [00:57.24]and also a medical doctor in Haiti, but not in the U.S. [01:02.76]The friend's name is not made public for reasons of safety. [01:06.76]He reported that Sanon told him [01:10.00]people claiming to represent the U.S. State and Justice departments [01:15.12]said they wanted to make him president. [01:18.80]He said the plan was only to arrest Moise, [01:22.44]and Sanon would not have participated [01:25.08]if he knew Moise would be killed. [01:28.60]"I guarantee you that," the friend said. [01:31.48]"This was supposed to be a mission to save Haiti from hell, [01:35.32]with support from the U.S. government." [01:38.64]Rev. Larry Caldwell, another religious leader [01:42.28]and friend of Sanon in Florida, agreed. [01:46.24]Caldwell said he worked with Sanon setting up religious centers [01:50.68]and medical offices in Haiti between 2000 and 2010. [01:58.08]He does not believe Sanon would have been involved in violence. [02:02.96]"I know the character of the man," Caldwell said. [02:07.12]However, records show Sanon has never been approved [02:11.88]to practice medicine or any other profession [02:15.56]covered by Florida's Department of Health. [02:18.96]They also show that Sanon started several businesses [02:23.68]over the last 20 years, all of which failed. [02:29.36]Among the suspects arrested for Moise's killing [02:33.28]are 23 former Colombian soldiers, along with three Haitians. [02:39.92]Officials said five suspects are still free [02:43.88]and at least three have been killed. [02:47.96]Colombia's national police chief, General Jorge Luis Vargas, [02:53.52]said that a Florida-based company, CTU Security, [02:58.52]bought 19 plane tickets from Bogota to Santo Domingo [03:04.04]for the Colombian suspects. [03:07.48]Most arrived in the Dominican Republic in June [03:11.52]and moved into Haiti within weeks, Vargas said. [03:17.28]Haiti's National Police chief, Léon Charles, [03:21.00]said that Sanon was in contact with CTU Security [03:25.68]and that the company employed the suspects in the killing. [03:31.20]Officers also found a hat with the logo [03:34.68]of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, [03:38.48]20 boxes of bullets, gun parts, cars [03:42.92]and other things in Sanon's house in Haiti. [03:47.80]Charles said Sanon flew into Haiti in June [03:51.44]on a private airplane with several of the suspected gunmen. [03:57.24]The suspects were told their job was to protect Sanon, [04:01.84]but they were later ordered to arrest the president. [04:06.64]Charles said one suspect called Sanon after the killing. [04:12.08]Sanon then contacted two people the police believe [04:15.88]to be leaders of the plot. [04:19.16]Charles did not identify the leaders [04:22.04]or say if police know who they are. [04:26.72]Sanon's friend said he attended a recent meeting in Florida [04:31.36]with Sanon and other people, [04:33.40]including Antonio Enmanuel Intriago Valera, [04:38.12]the head of CTU Security. [04:41.36]He said the meeting centered on rebuilding Haiti's water system and fixing roads. [04:48.00]He said Sanon asked why the security team [04:51.72]accompanying him to Haiti were all Colombians. [04:56.16]Sanon was told that Haitians could not be trusted [04:59.56]and that the system is corrupt, the friend said. [05:04.04]He added Sanon called him from Haiti a few days before the assassination [05:09.16]and said the Colombians had disappeared. [05:12.20]"I'm all by myself. Who are these people? [05:15.84]I don't know what they are doing," the friend quoted Sanon as saying. [05:20.32]Sanon's arrest comes as a growing number of politicians [05:24.96]have opposed interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph. [05:29.80]Joseph is running Haiti with support from the police and the military. [05:35.60]U.S. officials from the Department of Justice [05:38.72]and the Department of Homeland Security met Sunday with Joseph, [05:43.40]nominated Prime Minister Ariel Henry and Joseph Lambert, [05:49.16]the head of Haiti's dismantled Senate. [05:52.44]The delegation also met with Haiti's National Police [05:56.72]and reviewed the security of critical systems. [05:59.80]White House press secretary Jen Psaki said, [06:04.44]"What was clear from their trip is that there is a lack of clarity [06:09.08]about the future of political leadership." [06:12.68]I'm Jill Robbins. [06:14.16]And I'm John Russell. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
