[00:13.08]Rutherford took the Guinness World record that had been held [00:18.56]by 30-year-old American flyer Shaesta Waiz since 2017. [00:25.60]The youngest male to fly alone is Britain’s Travis Ludlow. [00:32.60]He set that record on July 12, 2021, [00:37.40]when he was 18 years and 150 days old. [00:43.44]The British-Belgian pilot started her trip around the world on August 18. [00:51.40]It covered 51,000 kilometers over 52 countries and five continents. [00:59.92]On Thursday, Rutherford landed her small airplane back in western Belgium. [01:08.20]"It's just really crazy, I haven't quite processed it," she said. [01:15.32]The flight was supposed to take three months. [01:18.72]But bad weather and visa delays kept her grounded [01:23.60]and extended the trip by about two months. [01:28.96]Rutherford started in Belgium [01:31.68]and headed west over Britain, Iceland, and Greenland. [01:38.00]The path took her over Canada, the United States, and Latin America. [01:45.84]Rutherford could not leave Alaska for a month [01:49.28]because of weather and visa delays. [01:53.68]A winter storm forced another long stop in the Russian Far East [01:59.76]before she traveled to Korea, Indonesia, [02:03.92]India, the Middle East, and back to Europe. [02:09.80]To meet the requirement for a round-the-world flight, [02:14.84]Rutherford had to land on two points opposite each other on Earth: [02:21.04]Jambi in Indonesia and Tumaco in Colombia. [02:28.80]The teenager said the last part of her trip, [02:32.40]from Germany, had been difficult. [02:36.60]She had to deal with rain and snow coming out of Frankfurt. [02:42.44]But she was happy to be accompanied [02:45.52]by the Belgian Air Force's Red Devils team before landing. [02:52.00]“The people were incredible, everywhere,” she said. [02:57.96]Rutherford said she has been traveling in small planes [03:02.52]with her pilot parents since she was six. [03:07.36]She gained her pilot’s license in 2020 [03:11.20]and started flying herself at 14. [03:15.96]Rutherford dreams of being an astronaut. [03:19.92]She hopes her trip will get more women interested [03:23.96]in science, technology, and aviation. [03:29.32]On her website, Rutherford wrote, [03:32.24]"Boys learn through toys, street names, [03:36.24]history classes and movies that they can be scientists, [03:41.32]astronauts, CEOs or presidents.” [03:46.64]She added, "Girls are often encouraged to be beautiful, [03:51.72]kind, helpful and sweet. With my flight, [03:57.44]I want to show young women that they can be bold, [04:01.08]ambitious and make their dreams come true." [04:07.60]I’m Dorothy Gundy. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
