[00:09.52]A very large show celebrating French painter Claude Monet [00:16.40]will open in November in a building [00:20.00]once used as a bank in the Wall Street area. [00:24.72]The name of the show is "Monet's Garden: The Immersive Experience." [00:32.24]The immersive experience uses digital technology [00:37.80]to show very large images of Monet's paintings [00:42.44]on the walls and floors of the building. [00:46.32]It has music, the smell of lavender, and voice-over [00:51.96]in several languages to help visitors immerse in the experience. [00:57.92]Dr. Nepomuk Schessl is the producer of the exhibition. [01:04.92]He said, "To be able to address more than just [01:10.04]two senses I think will immerse people a bit more." [01:15.24]Monet lived from 1840 until 1926. [01:21.88]During his life, Monet changed from painting traditional, [01:28.08]realistic images to capturing light, atmosphere and movement. [01:35.96]Schessl explained that Monet "was living right [01:40.76]at the moment when photography was invented. [01:44.60]So, the whole world of art changed." [01:49.68]The show will offer many of Monet's works, [01:53.44]from the rocky coastline of Normandy [01:57.08]to the Japanese bridge and water lilies at his home in Giverny. [02:03.28]Swiss creative lab Immersive Art AG [02:08.80]developed the idea for the show [02:11.36]along with Alegria Konzert GmbH. [02:17.48]It has already been shown in some European cities [02:22.20]and will be shown in London. [02:25.80]In some ways, Schessl thinks a huge 360-degree [02:31.72]presentation of Monet's works fits with what Monet wanted. [02:38.64]"He wanted the spectator to completely immerse himself [02:43.64]or herself into the painting," said Schessl. [02:49.04]Last year, two other immersive shows of the Dutch painter [02:54.60]Vincent Van Gogh came to New York City. [02:58.60]And the exhibit of Austrian artist Gustav Klimt [03:03.44]also used similar technology. [03:07.44]Schessl says he looks at these kinds of exhibits [03:11.60]to make sure his team knows about the newest technologies [03:16.76]and ways of making immersive experiences possible. [03:22.60]But he said the paintings should always be the center. [03:28.72]"The technology is our means to achieve something, [03:32.68]but it never should only be the technology," he said.
