[00:05.80]The drug company's leader, Stephane Bancel, [00:09.76]said Moderna is discussing supplying China with vaccines. [00:13.92]Bancel spoke with the Reuters news agency [00:17.68]at the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting [00:22.08]this week in Davos, Switzerland. [00:25.00]Moderna is based in the United States. [00:28.12]Bancel said he is also talking with Chinese officials [00:33.44]about factories and other health products, [00:36.52]including cancer treatments. [00:39.60]"What I really want to understand [00:41.76]is how do we help the Chinese government [00:45.56]address the needs they have [00:48.08]from a healthcare standpoint," he said. [00:51.04]Bancel did not say anything more about the plan, [00:54.60]except for that he hopes to visit China this year. [01:00.36]China so far has only permitted its own vaccines for COVID-19. [01:07.36]The country is currently experiencing a surge of infections [01:12.84]after it ended the severe restrictions [01:16.60]of its "zero COVID" policy in late 2022. [01:23.24]The Chinese vaccines do not use the latest technology. [01:28.52]Instead of using mRNA [01:31.20]like the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, [01:35.36]they use the inactive form of the virus. [01:40.24]International health experts [01:42.36]believe the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations [01:45.96]may create an even larger virus outbreak. [01:50.04]Many Chinese people living in cities [01:53.16]return to their hometowns for celebrations. [01:57.16]Some rural areas [01:59.84]do not have good hospitals and medical centers. [02:04.44]Moderna's Bancel said his company is also working with Merck [02:09.64]on using mRNA technology to treat cancer. [02:14.28]They are researching an experimental vaccine for melanoma, [02:20.24]the most serious kind of skin cancer. [02:24.80]In a group discussion at the WEF, [02:28.00]Bancel said he wants Moderna to have factories [02:33.04]around the world working on mRNA vaccines. [02:37.16]He said Moderna is building, or plans to build, [02:41.76]factories in Canada, Australia, Britain and Kenya. [02:47.36]I'm Dan Friedell. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
