[00:28.44]Hamedi and Elaheh Mohammadi covered the story [00:33.24]of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman [00:38.68]who died while being held [00:41.20]by Iran's morality police last September. [00:46.16]She had been accused [00:48.48]of wearing her head covering too loosely. [00:53.28]Hamedi broke the news of Amini's death [00:57.44]and Elaheh Mohammadi wrote about her funeral. [01:02.92]Both women were arrested for their reporting work. [01:08.44]The news of Amini's death [01:11.08]led to months of protests [01:15.04]in many cities across Iran. [01:18.24]One of the media professionals [01:21.40]who chose the winners, [01:23.80]Zainab Salbi, said the brave work of the winners [01:29.52]"led to a historical women-led revolution." [01:35.56]The third prize winner, Narges Mohammadi, [01:39.96]has worked for many years as a journalist [01:44.08]and is one of Iran's most well-known activists. [01:48.12]She has won numerous international awards [01:52.72]for her activism against the death penalty in Iran. [01:58.20]She has been repeatedly [02:00.12]detained and imprisoned for her work. [02:04.56]The UN's cultural organization, UNESCO, [02:08.44]says Mohammadi is currently serving [02:11.72]a 16-year prison term in Iran's Evin Prison. [02:18.48]Audrey Azoulay is the director-general of UNESCO. [02:24.00]At an award ceremony in New York on Tuesday, [02:27.88]Azoulay said: "Now more than ever, [02:30.80]it is important to pay tribute to [02:33.80]all women journalists [02:35.64]who are prevented from doing their jobs [02:39.32]and who face threats [02:41.24]and attacks on their personal safety." [02:45.32]The prize is officially known [02:47.92]as the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano [02:51.96]World Press Freedom Prize.
