[00:11.48]Kristin Harila has already climbed eight of them in 40 days. [00:18.52]The 37-year-old said Tuesday she has set a new goal [00:24.00]of climbing all 14 peaks in three months. [00:29.96]That is two times faster than her initial goal. [00:35.64]The 14 highest mountains are those higher than 8,000 meters. [00:42.72]Harila is trying to beat the 2019 record set by a male climber, [00:49.16]who climbed all 14 peaks in just over six months. [00:56.04]Harila hopes to climb Mount Manaslu in Nepal in the next few days. [01:03.68]After that, she will try the five remaining peaks [01:07.68]in the Karakorum mountains of Pakistan. [01:12.36]This includes K2, the second- highest mountain in the world. [01:19.08]K2 is considered more difficult and dangerous than Mount Everest, [01:25.40]the world's highest mountain. [01:29.12]"I believe we can do it, [01:31.20]if we do Manaslu now and the five in Pakistan, [01:36.16]we can do in three months," Harila said. [01:41.00]"We are very happy we have made eight [01:44.04]and we are all safe and everyone is good," she added. [01:49.68]Harila began her effort in April [01:52.68]by climbing Mount Shishapangma in China. [01:57.56]She then climbed other peaks in China [02:00.40]as well as in Nepal, including Everest. [02:05.04]Her latest climb was Nepal's Mount Annapurna on June 5. [02:11.56]Her climb of Annapurna was unusually late in the spring climbing season. [02:19.04]Most teams had already left the mountains. [02:22.96]That is because it was close to the arrival of summer rains and snow. [02:31.04]"It was very nice but very difficult to climb Annapurna alone. [02:37.60]No one was around, it was different. [02:41.28]When there is lot of people it is much easier," she said. [02:47.72]The current record is held by Nirmal Purja, [02:51.28]a Nepal-born British citizen. [02:55.20]He climbed the 14 highest peaks in 189 days in 2019. [03:03.68]Purja's climbs were later made into a popular Netflix documentary called [03:09.72]"14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible." [03:15.16]I'm Dorothy Gundy. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
