Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is meeting with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon near Moscow for talks on international security, including events in the Middle East and Africa.
In the talks Friday, Mr. Medvedev expressed concern that Western nations have exceeded the mandate of the U.N. resolution calling for establishment of a no-fly zone over Libya, and urged a diplomatic solution to the conflict. Also on the agenda are discussions about the ongoing conflicts in Africa, nuclear security, the nuclear accident in Japan and the situation in North Korea. The U.N. leader also expressed hope that Russia would support him for a second term leading the U.N.
Mr. Ban was in Russia as part of a wider tour of Europe.
